General Usage

Will Proactiv® Solution work if I use the products individually rather than as a system?
Proactiv® Solution is based on the concept of Combination Therapy® - a combination of products working together to fight acne, each enhancing the effectiveness of the others. You will receive optimum results by using them as directed.

Can I use Proactiv® Solution products on my body as well as my face?
Yes, you can use Proactiv® Solution on any blemish-prone area. If you are particularly prone to body acne, you may want to visit the Body Care section of our online catalog - we have developed a special line of products for body acne.

Do the dermatologists recommend a particular moisturizer for use with Proactiv® Solution?
Drs. Rodan & Fields recommend Proactiv® Solution Oil-Free Moisture with SPF 15. Developed specifically for acne-prone skin, this light oil-free formula keeps skin healthy and hydrated without clogging pores.

How do I use the 3-Step System?
Follow these simple steps twice a day everyday for a great complexion!

• Step 1: Renewing Cleanser - Apply a small (dime-sized) amount to dampened skin and gently massage for 1-2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry. Note: Renewing Cleanser contains benzoyl peroxide, which can bleach towels and fabrics.
• Step 2: Revitalizing Toner - Apply to cleansed skin with a cotton ball or pad. Allow to dry.
• Step 3: Repairing Lotion - Apply a thin layer (pea-sized) to the entire affected area. Allow to dry. Do not rinse off. If going outside, use a sunscreen. Note: Repairing Lotion contains benzoyl peroxide, which can bleach towels and fabrics.

Why and when should I use the Refining Mask?
Our Refining Mask is formulated with sulfur, a proven acne-fighting ingredient that reaches deep into pores where blemishes begin. Cool, soothing Kaolin, (also known as China Clay) helps absorb excess surface oils while our special formula soothes inflammation and refines skin tone and texture. For best results, use with your 3-Step System 2-3 times per week. Make sure to start with a clean face before applying the mask. Directions: Apply to dampened skin. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with water. May be followed with the 3-Step System. Tip: For the emergency blemish - use overnight on pimple for fast improvement!

Why and when should I use the Daily Oil Control?
Our Daily Oil Control helps control excess oil throughout the day to keep skin from shining and makeup from streaking. Daily Oil Control gently balances the skin while keeping your skin hydrated and healthy looking. Directions: Use after Repairing Lotion. Apply to entire face with fingertips.

Why and when should I use the Oil Free Moisture with SPF 15?
Our Oil Free Moisture with SPF 15 is designed to keep acne-prone skin healthy and hydrated. Advanced moisturizing agents soothe and soften without clogging pores, and our formula has oil-absorbing properties for all-day freshness. Directions: Apply to clean face and neck at least once daily. May be used following the Repairing Lotion (allow to dry).

Do I need to moisturize?
It is important to keep all skin types hydrated for a healthy appearance. The right moisturizer will not aggravate acne or increase oiliness. In fact, it can actually improve the look and texture of your skin. Even oily skin can become dry and flaky on the surface. Look for one that is oil-free and non-comedogenic, which means it won't clog pores. Some moisturizers also contain acne-fighting medications such as salicylic acid to help exfoliate dead skin and brighten your complexion. Try our Oil Free Moisturizer with SPF 15 for daytime or Green Tea Moisturizer and Clarifying Night Cream for nighttime treatment.

Sun Exposure

Is it safe to use Proactiv® Solution when using a tanning bed?
Since the ingredients used in Proactiv® Solution may make your skin more sensitive to the sun, we suggest you avoid tanning beds - and always wear an oil-free sunscreen.

I am outside in direct sunlight most of the day. Is it safe to use Proactiv® Solution?
Yes, but the ingredients used in Proactiv® Solution may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. You should always wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15... apply Proactiv® Solution first, then the sunscreen.

Wearing Make-up

Can I wear make-up over Proactiv® Solution?
Yes, you can still wear make-up...but always look for products that are non-comedogenic and oil-free. And always remove make-up before working out. Check out the Flawless Finish section of our online catalog to shop our line of make-up products specifically developed for acne-prone skin.

Are any of the Proactiv® Solution products safe to use for the removal of eye make up and lipstick?
Yes. Our Make-up Removing Cloths are safe, gentle and non-medicated. You can use them all over your face, even the delicate eye area. Follow with Renewing Cleanser.

Can I treat my acne and wear make up?
Yes. Our Sheer Finish Compact Foundation is medicated with Salicylic Acid to penetrate deep into pores to help stop acne at its source and our Concealer Plus has a special Sulfur-based formula that helps absorb oil, actually helping to heal blemishes while it hides them! Both come in a choice of colors to match your skin tone for a flawless finish.

Does Proactiv® Solution offer a product that helps with wrinkles?
The Clarifying Night Cream combines the acne-fighting power of Salicylic Acid and the age-defying power of Retinol. It helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and restores moisture balance while preventing acne breakouts. We also offer Replenishing Eye Serum with Co-Q10 & Green Tea to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the delicate eye area, and Nourishing Eye Cream with Vitamin C and Soy Extract to deliver deep, soothing hydration.

Troubleshooting

Will Proactiv® Solution clog my pores?
No. Proactiv® Solution was formulated to be non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging).

Will the benzoyl peroxide in Proactiv® Solution bleach my towels or clothing?
Yes. As with all benzoyl peroxide products, you may find that Proactiv® Solution bleaches or discolors towels and fabrics. So make sure you wash your hands after applying Proactiv® Solution...and allow skin to dry completely before pulling a shirt or sweater over your head.

Will the benzoyl peroxide in Proactiv® Solution cause my tattoos to fade?
No. But as with all benzoyl peroxide products, you may find that Proactiv® Solution bleaches or discolors towels and fabrics. So make sure you wash your hands after applying Proactiv® Solution...and allow skin to dry completely before pulling a shirt or sweater over your head.

Proactiv® is clearing my acne, but I have redness. What should I do?
If you experience redness when you first use Proactiv® Solution, you may be sensitive to benzoyl peroxide. If this happens, stop using the system for two days. When your skin begins to improve, resume using the Renewing Cleanser and Revitalizing Toner daily. To slowly build a tolerance for benzoyl peroxide, use the Repairing Lotion twice a week at night. Gradually increase nightly usage of the Repairing Lotion, as tolerated. If redness persists, stop using the product and consult your doctor.

Why has Proactiv® Solution suddenly stopped working for me?
Acne is cyclical condition. It may last many years, and you may experience periods of improvement followed by flare-ups, and vice-versa. The medications used in Proactiv® Solution should continue to be effective for as long as you use the products as directed. If your flare-ups continue or increase in severity, consult your dermatologist.
